Welcome

This is first and foremost a photography site.  It is about the images, so they are front and center on the site, in lieu of a “welcome” screen.  I believe most visitors to a personal photography site want to see the owner’s photographs, so that is what you get when you go to Light Centric Photography.com.  There are, of course, other features to the site that may be of some interest.

Before I say more about the site itself, I want to thank Peter, Craig and Ben at AP Sites for realizing my vision for the look, design and function of my site and for hosting it (I have made some recent changes and my knowledge of HTML and programming is in its infancy stage, so anything that looks "clunky" is probaby my doing).

Travel and Location PDF’s

This site also offers something a little unique.  In addition to photo galleries, I have created a kind of “travel diary” of my own photographic travels in Adobe “pdf” format.  In this section you will find links to downloadable, illustrated pdf documents.  These documents are freely downloadable and you may make electronic copies and distribute them, or print them.  The materials are copyrighted, however and may not be reproduced or used in any other form with my express, written permission.

There is a “school of thought” that will suggest that I should not “publish” this information.  I have always been a firm believer in openness.  However, I urge all who do use this information to practice good stewardship of our natural places, as well as courtesy and respect for the private property of others.  I believe there is more than enough natural wonder for all of us--as long as we all “leave no footprint.”

In part, the inspiration for these works was an old “guide” to Photographing Vermont, which I used for my first trip back there in about 20 years.  The guide purported to give directions to find some of the “iconic” scenic shots often seen in calendars, greeting cards, magazines, etc.  To my dismay, following the guide for fall-color trips for two successive years in 2005 and 2006, I found many of the scenes to be greatly changed and in some cases, no longer viable.  While this wasn’t critical in my mind, as I was personally looking for a type rather than a particular scenic, it illustrates a point made in the “Photographing Vermont” pdf: change is constant.  What I recorded in 2006 in Vermont will no doubt be different in 2020.

It is also a truism that nobody will ever photograph all there is to photograph in a location and no guide can be truly comprehensive.  Mine do not purport to be comprehensive.  Indeed, they barely scratch the proverbial surface.  I would certainly welcome any new or additional information about the locations and scenes, or about new, similar scenes.

There is now only a pdf guide to Photographing Vermont. I am currently working on a similar pdf guide to photographing Michigan’s “UP” (upper peninsula).

Profile

The site is also partly about my personal approach to photography and my philosophy.  It seems to me that when you know something about the “artist” (some viewers may find a great degree of “license” in my use of that word), it put their work in a different perspective.  For those who don’t care at all, they can skip the “Profile” section altogether.  For those who want the “quick and dirty,” the (default) “Short Version” is -- I hope -- brief and painless.  For those who want to know more than they really want to know, the long version says a little bit more about who I am and where I have been in photography.

Resources

The resources section of the site is not intended to be an exhaustive list of resources, but rather, some of my personal favorite books and sites and will evolve as an ecclectic "list" of sorts involving other photographers' sites, "how to" information, articles of interest and some equipment references.

Blog

The Light Centric Photography Blog currently links to Google's Blogger, rather than residing on the site. There is a link back in case your browser's "back" button doesn't work. At this point, my vision for the Blog is "anything and everything photography" (no matter how remote it may sometimes seem. I hope viewers will check it out and comment. Perhaps it can stimulate some good thought and discussion.

Evolution

This site has been a dream of mine (ironically, authored with DreamWeaver) which began around the “fuzzy edges” several years ago, and which has finally become reality for me in 2008.  I fully expect it to be an evolving project.  I may well add new pages and take different directions in the years to come.  I fully expect to have a blog up and running this year.  I welcome any comment you might have that would make this a better place to come to.

Thank you for looking.

Andy
